Hello!

I am Holly Hoyt-Miscovich. I'm a native Texan currently living in Houston with my husband and a sweet Beagle doggy named Bea - yeah, original, I know. We adopted her from a shelter so she sort of came with the name, but it totally suits her.

I love meeting people, hearing their journeys, and capturing a story of images that reflect personality, emotion, life and an authenticity that can sometimes be lost behind the lens in this industry. I want the "stuff" that makes you who you are. Raw. Real. You. I'll be posting here regularly on photography, art, and my life so I hope you will stop by again soon to see what is going on - there is always a fresh adventure happening. Thanks for stopping by!

Sara + Daniel | Christ Church Cathedral + Majestic Metro | Houston, Tx Wedding

Sara + Daniel tied the knot back in August but I’m just now getting to show them some blog love. You guys have probably seen Sara’s bridal shoot in the previous post so you already know how beautiful she is. If their engagement shoot was any indication of how fun and sweet their wedding would be, then I was in for some fun! I can not even say enough about Sara and Daniel – they are real, amazing, genuine, honest, loving, and passionate people. Sara is a photographer too. She shoots with me on occasion  and I couldn’t ask for anyone with a more perfect fit for my style and personality. She’s awesome ya’ll. Daniel, you are pretty rad too. Yeah, I said rad, believe it.

Their day was full of lots of scenery changes as we hopped from the hotel, to the church, to the reception venue and I was loving it all! Special thanks to Mark C. Austin who shot with me for a part of the day – you rock something awesome. Okay, now stop reading and go check out these two lovelies!

You know I always start with my favorite from the day….

Mark snapped the top two of the church shots in this set – beautiful full church shot & close up of Sara & Daniel – love it.

What a cutie patootie!!

Sara S. | Houston Bridal Shoot

It is always so difficult waiting to post bridal shoots! It’s hard keeping a secret, but way worth it. Luckily I didn’t have to wait long to post Sara – their wedding was last weekend and we just did her bridals a few weeks ago. Of course we had grand plans to do the shoot in the courtyard at the church where her and Daniel were to be married; however, we were kicked and locked out before we got past the front doors! Sara’s the kind of girl who goes with the flow though, and we had a backup plan.  To quote my dad from one of his life mantras, “gotta have a plan B, Holly.” After seeing the final images, I think our “plan B” totally rocked. Sara is beautiful, fun, and way cool to hang out with so we took our time and even managed to squeak in a glass of wine between photo ops. Sara’s mom came along too and wow, was she great!  Get ready for their wedding post coming soon!

Fabulous Makeup By: Sari Motley – Check her out ya’ll: www.sarimotley.com

This was Sara and my favorite of the day, so I’m posting it first! Isn’t she just gorgeous!?!

September 9, 2009 - 1:26 pm sara - I love your blog posts! You pick the best combo and the layouts look so cool... I 100% love all of the pics from this shoot - you did such a good job - fun day too :) thank you!! We are still printing random ones to see which we/my mom want to frame... so many to choose from. Thanks for your hard work!

Abed + Danya | Houston, Texas Wedding

Back in January I got the opportunity to meet Danya & Abed and photograph their engagement party. It was so much fun and I couldn’t imagine what the wedding would be like since everyone pretty much danced their feet off that night! Their family is so full of love and so proud to have Danya & Abed in their lives. I can’t say that I always remember the Best Man and Maid of Honor’s speeches to every wedding I go to (because that would be border line scary if I had a memory that good) but I do remember what Danya’s Maid of Honor said about her and it stuck in my mind so clearly.  She told a story about Danya and her during the hurricane last year (and I won’t recount the entire thing!) but basically she said that Danya is the type of person that will do anything, for anyone, anytime and she won’t complain for one second about it. The reason I remember it so well is that over the course of this past year getting to know Danya and Abed, I have come to realize that  they are these kind of people all the time – not just one time, in one circumstance, in one story. I feel blessed to have gotten to know them and honored to have been part of their day.  Thank you also to Sara, who second shot with me. I’ll post some of her pics from the wedding soon too!  Enjoy the preview…..

Everyone met up at Danya’s house first as she finished getting ready  – her dad and sister almost brought me to tears too after Danya came down the stairs.

They had a dance troupe come in and it was so much fun to watch them perform. Not to mention the music was AWESOME.

Bryan + Tara | Katy, Texas Wedding

I would like to introduce Mr. & Mrs. Bryan Thompson. You’ve seen Tara’s fabulous bridals, now check out some of my favorites from their wedding. I never can narrow it down, so there are a lot missing that I love, love, love.  Bryan and Tara both graduated from A&M and they had a super fun wedding infused with lots of A&M flare.  These two are way cool, very fun, and as cute as can be together. Tara is vibrant and glowing all the time and her smile contagious. Bryan is pretty awesome too, although I met him for the first time on the day of the wedding, I knew immediately why they fit so perfectly together. He is a sweetheart too. Best wishes Bryan and Tara!

August 24, 2009 - 10:04 pm Lindsey Pattillo - Great photos! They really capture the joy and love of Tara, Bryan and their party. Loved that wedding!

August 21, 2009 - 8:51 am holly - Thanks Monica! Can't wait to see you guys in your bridesmaid dresses! They are fun aren't they? Have fun in Arizona!

August 21, 2009 - 6:16 am Monica - These are beautiful, Holly! what a gorgeous couple! I'm in a wedding next weekend in Arizona with the SAME bridesmaid dress and color! We were all so excited to see it in the pics!

Tara B. | Houston Bridal Shoot

This is beautiful Mrs. Tara. I’ve been wanting to post her bridals for a while now, but of course, we had to wait until the wedding! She and Bryan got married last weekend, and while they are off on their honeymoon I’ve been working hard to have their pictures ready when they get home.  She was completely awesome meeting up with me very early one Sunday morning for her bridal shoot. We were trying to beat the heat and she hung in there let me tell you. Her mom, best friend Sara and cousin Brittany came along too and they were so awesome helping with things and I even got to hear some great college stories – Tara and Bryan are both A&M grads.

Tara, I had a great time with you guys. You are fearless and I love that! Not to mention a heart as big as Texas. Hope you’re having fun on the honeymoon!

August 21, 2009 - 8:58 am holly - Awesome! I'm so glad you are enjoying them. Thanks for having me there for your big day! You and Bryan are the sweetest Aggies I've ever met! I'm sure there are more of you out there :) You know I'm a Texas Tech girl, so I have to give you a hard time. :)

August 17, 2009 - 8:40 pm Tara Thompson - you are totally the best :) Bryan and I can't stop watching the slideshow, sending it to friends and fam, etc. etc. I can't believe how you can take a plain-Jane and turn her into Cinderella! LOVE YA GIRL! thanks for everything and all the great times! :)

And the prize goes to…

A few posts back I asked two questions and promised a prize to the first person who left a comment with the answers. One was to help give me a name for the client slide shows I offer, and the other was to name the movie that I referenced in my post. Since I had a total of 3 comments to go through – tough job I know :) – it was kind of a no-brainer in determining the winner. So, thank you, @CosmoPolitician for your feedback, insight, and good movie sense! She also happens to be a regular blog reader and that means a lot to me – thank you. You win the lovely prize pictured below: a  tri-fold credit card/business card holder/keyfob in a fabulous Amy Butler fabric  from a very awesome Etsy seller Cassy Lain Totes. It’s great for a night out when you don’t want to carry a wallet or purse – fits right in your pocket!

July 27, 2009 - 3:49 pm Monica - SWEEEET!!!! and you know i have a lot of night's out that i can use this for! awesome!

Houston Bridal Gowns | Fabulous Finds

You guys know that I have no problem at all completey raving about vendors, fabulous finds and wonderful experiences. This past weekend I got to go bridal dress shopping with my sister. She just got engaged recently and I am so excited for them. I love weddings anyway, but when it comes to family, it is extra fun and exciting.

One of the places we went, the only place we ended up going to actually, was Marry Go Round. It is a FABULOUS an unique bridal boutique off West Gray. They are a full service consignment boutique specializing in new, sample, and gently worn wedding gowns. I had no idea what to expect other than the fact that I had no inkling of what we might find. About 2 hours later, we walked out with a BEAUTIFUL gown and veil that absolutely is perfect on my sis. Not to mention that it was within her budget.  Total props to Madeline, co-owner of the shop with her mom Judy. SHE IS THE BEST. And I don’t use all caps for nothing people!  She is so patient, kind, and truley knows what looks good on every type of person. And you know, with me, my mom, and my sister barreling in there like a 3 ring circus, she’s got to be good. We always sing that little circus diddy -  Entrance of the Gladiators MIDI  sort of like a warning signal to anyone around that we are a little crazy together so watch out. Yeah, we’re weird.

So, all of you soon-to-be Mrs. out there, if you are looking (or know someone who is)  for an amazing gown with a great price tag and the best selection of different styles anywhere in Houston, head over to Marry Go Round at 719 West Gray. Check out their website – www.marrygoroundbridal.com and be sure to meet Madeline when you go. Thank you Madeline for a wonderful experience, beautiful gown, and helping us to find something in our budget.

And because I can’t post without some sort of picture — Here’s a preview of their space that you will see
when you go to their website  – It is so cute!

August 24, 2009 - 10:06 pm holly - Lindsey, that is totally random! It really is a small world. I'll have to ask Madeline how she came about to be on their website. Surely there is a story there.

August 24, 2009 - 9:58 pm Lindsey Pattillo - This young lady in the photo is one of my great friends from University of Alabama, Kris. WOW. Small world!!!

Margarita + Paul | Engagement Shoot | Houston, Texas

Meeting with Margarita and Paul the first time, I was instantly drawn to their very down to earth, easy to talk to personalities. Margarita is the sweetest thing and you can just feel how much she loves Paul every time they look at each other. Paul is a police officer in Houston and man the stories he can tell. Oh, and he is very adorable with Margarita. Sorry, Paul, I know the tough guy persona that comes with being a defender of our great city, but it’s not like you can hide it very well when you two are together ;)   Their wedding is coming up in October and they have some pretty cool ideas they are going to be implementing into their celebration. Here are a few images from their engagement shoot that I love.

Why yes – that is Paul on one knee proposing with a pine cone. Serious love here people.

July 12, 2009 - 10:17 am Margarita - I love these pictures so much, Holly!! My family and friends must be tired of me asking them to look at them, but so what? I knew you'd do a great job. You were the first vendor we booked and it was the easiest decision throughout the wedding planning because we loved your work so much that we had no doubts. You're so much fun and easy to work with. We're so excited to have you shoot the wedding! Can't wait!

July 12, 2009 - 9:59 am Sharon - They are a lovely couple. I pray that they are forever happy! I am so happy for you two! The pictures are beautiful!

HWNT:Downtown Houston

This week I got to shoot some headshots of some fabulous ladies all of which are part of the  non-profit organization Hispanic Women’s Network of Texas. They are having their swearing in ceremony next week so I will get to be a part of documenting that and also the reception after. They are a really fun group of ladies who all work really hard to promote diverse women in public, corporate, and civic arenas. I don’t get the chance to do a lot of group work with organizations in capacities like this so it was a treat to be able to break away and do something different. How cool is it to be a part of such an empowered group of women? Way cool. Check them out.

What Exactly Just Happened Here?

Not too long ago, well probably a few weeks ago, (i’ve been super bad at getting these blogged in a timely manner) Katie and I met up for a totally artsy fun shoot. I REALLY need to do this more often. It was an interesting day. I think Katie will agree.  Everything started normal. I arrived on a Sunday morning, very early to get a jump on the day thinking we would get some great morning sunlight. Yeah, not so much. It was pretty overcast which actually is one of my favorite types of light to take pictures in so it was all good. We were both super excited about our adventures we were about to embark on so we hit the street. We got the first set done and decided to go back to Katie’s for a wardrobe change. And this is where the fun starts. We brainstormed a bit about where we were going to go next and decided to take a few quick pictures there at her place. Very cute place I might add.

Fast forward through a few frames at which point I said, “Hey, cool mantle lets do something on that!”. Or was it, “Katie, you have to get on the mantle for me!”? I don’t remember those tinsy details but whichever way I “suggested” it she agreed. I barely got to get a few shots in, although it seemed like an eternity that she was up there (most of which time was spent luring Skitz, her kitty, up onto the mantle too – which he eventually did join in the fun). Just as Skitz jumped to the floor, I think cats must have sixth sense or something, the entire mantle along with Katie and her uber cute coffee cup came crashing to the ground.  Insert *laughter* here.  I was so confused, I didn’t know if I was supposed to laugh or cry. Cry now laugh later maybe because we ended up spending most of the rest of the afternoon battling with nailing, caulking, painting, piecing and sanding everything back together. As a side note, the mantle was very poorly attached to begin with – only 2 nails holding it on and about 5 layers of paint. Yes, she does have landlords that might wonder why their mantle mysteriously fell off the face of the fire place, and honestly, rather than trying to explain that one, we opted for the “make it look like it never happened” choice. And before you ask, no, I did not capture the fall in mid air. It’s kinda like when crazy Aunt LuLu, while doing the chicken dance at your reception, trips backward into the lead singer of the band – there are just some things I won’t take pictures of and embarrassing moments that may result in injury are some of them. So, we have one after picture and one after-after picture when it was restored back to its original condition (hours later that same day). That’s the story my friends. Walking into her apartment that morning, Katie says to me, “Oh Holly, by the way, I’m a bit clumsy and chaos usually follows me.” Yes, I get it now.

Katie - You were awesome, look completely beautiful  and thanks for giving me another story to tell.

And last but not least, I had to post the only two shots I have from the whole affair. Katie has the post-repair pic so….it basically looks just like it was before. Yeah, that’s right. We’re that good.

June 12, 2009 - 1:10 pm Elyzabeth Griffin - OMG! Holly you are just amazing. You are wonderfully creative. I will tell everyone to use you. You never fail to amaze me. :)

June 11, 2009 - 6:38 am sara - That is awesome! Great shots Holly, I love the first set and the close up of her laughing with the coffe cup - great shot. And the one with the side light and her fixing her blouse - lots of great ones in there.

June 10, 2009 - 5:54 am laanba - Katie makes a beautiful model. And wow I wouldn't even know how to begin to fix a mantle. That's why you are a professional photographer!

June 10, 2009 - 5:45 am Monica - awesome! love it!! and katie is SUCH a beauty!!

June 9, 2009 - 9:34 pm Katie - aack! I love it I love it I love it!!!!!
